Here is a function to retrieve SQL Server 2000's property such as edition, version, patch, license and etc.

select serverproperty('edition')
select serverproperty('ProductVersion')
select serverproperty('LicenseType')
select serverproperty('NumLicenses')
select serverproperty('ProductLevel')
select serverproperty('ServerName')
